It was interesting attending the Skills Fair again this year and it was good to see many schools participating. Although there was some confusion The Bishop Laney Foundation was part of the college of the same name (we’re not!), we were pleased to meet many school leavers and some that we may be able to assist with grants.
It was our first outing with our refreshed brand and new roll-up banners and leaflets. We spoke to a number of young people, many of whom the foundation could help with grants in a years to come. One interesting young person wants to train to be a spy/secret agent and we were on hand to give him advice on what he should look to study at A-Levels!
We learned that many young people from Soham and Ely also study or train during their apprenticeships at West Suffolk College in Bury. If you’re reading this and know of any school leavers living in Ely or Soham planning to go to Bury, ask them to look at applying for a grant to see if they are eligible.
